Reflections on 2017 and Looking Ahead

Happy New Year!

Greetings Friends and Fans,

Welcome to 2018! We hope that this letter finds you healthy and happy after the holiday season. It is hard to believe that this summer will mark four years since we began the ambitious project to create a women’s bandura group. Our initiative has flourished into a full ensemble, with over 20 women who span two countries, five regions, and three generations.

This past year, the ladies of the Women’s Bandura Ensemble accomplished much to be proud of...

In 2017 the WBE...

  • held debut performances in Philadelphia and Chicago

  • released its inaugural CD, which you can find in the button above

  • conducted a three-day summer workshop in Connecticut to rehearse and bond

  • welcomed two more full members

  • performed twice in Detroit, marking the end of the ensemble's performance year.

2018 has already swept us all into the usual busy rhythms of life, and our musical lives are no exception. The ensemble will soon gather for a full-ensemble rehearsal in Toronto this March, where we will practice our repertoire for the Chicago Holodomor Commemoration in May, as well as the 100th Anniversary of the Orthodox Church USA in Bound Brook, NJ.

As we approach our fourth year, we thank all of you for supporting the WBENA. Whether you have followed our progress since 2014, or you discovered us today, your backing lets this ensemble thrive across borders and state lines.  Please remember to visit our website and social media platforms, and to subscribe to our newsletter.

Wishing you all the best in the new year,

The Women’s Bandura Ensemble of North America.
